Its such a clichéd question now but whats going on in this country? The 6 million euro contract to build the extension and refurbish the Loretto secondary school in Kilkenny was awarded to the Omagh based firm McCann Bros Irl Limited back in 2011. The company to date has received 4 million euros of taxpayers money. On Monday the company failed to turn up and have not been seen or heard from since. The Department of Education have not heard from McCanns nor have the school management. Work has come to a halt and many workers and in particular sub contractors are left without payment and completely in the dark.
How many times does this scenario have to play out leaving small companies and individuals in distress, financially and otherwise before our politicians do what they are elected to do and legislate? As I write sub contractors and workers are protesting at the school site and Loretto is without its school.
