The 2015 Kilkenny Roots Festival is having its programme launch in Kilkenny city this evening. With just over two weeks to go to the first gig of the four-day festival, tonight should mark the start of the landrush of whatever tickets are left available for the premium gigs on this year’s bill.
And while the likes of Calexico have been sold out for months, there’s tickets to be had for the Sunday School Sessions, Sons Of Bill, John Murry, Cale Tyson, the I’m With Her gig at the Watergate and a few more top billings across the weekend.
Beyond the premium gigs there’s a world of cracking music to discover on the Roots trail. If you think I’ve gone missing over the May Bank Holiday weekend, start at the top of John Street in Kilkenny, work your way down to the bottom of Parliament Street and I’ll likely meet you somewhere in the middle.
I’ll be previewing the festival and some of the artists on the blog here over the next two weeks and Martin Bridgeman will likely be giving plenty of the artists a spin on Folk/Roots coming into the bank holiday weekend.
