More than half of the 13 patients that had their cancers missed during colonoscopy screenings in Wexford General Hospital are from Carlow & Kilkenny.
A review due to be published today found 13 cancer cases were missed at the hospital – 7 of the patients were from Carlow and Kilkenny with the other 6 from Co Wexford.
All of the patients were under the care of the same consultant, who’s been on leave since the issue emerged 2 years ago.
Patients affected include those who attended under the national BowelScreen programme and patients who were referred for colonoscopies by their GP.
The hospital has apologised to patients.
