A primary school in Carlow had to be evacuated this morning after a bomb scare.
KCLR understands that the Askea Girls NS was alerted to the bomb threat by text message.
It’s not yet clear where the threat came from and if the message originated from outside the country.
Askea Girls NS is just one of a number of schools evacuated across the country after a spate of bomb scares.
Other schools targeted by threats today are in Limerick, Cork and Dublin.
The decision was made to clear Askea GNS after a text message was sent to the school this morning. The school remained closed throughout the day.
KCLR understands the school will reopen tomorrow. The news comes as the Police Service of Northern Ireland are investigating a number of “malicious communications” to schools in the North. Police forces across the rest of the UK are also investigating similar calls.
