A campaign is being launched this evening for a women’s refuge for Carlow.
People Before Profit say a facility like the Amber Women’s Refuge in Kilkenny needs to be set up as a priority.
At the moment women and children experiencing domestic violence and homelessness have to travel elsewhere for shelter.
A public meeting to launch the campaign is taking place from 7 in the New Oak Community Centre and organiser Adrienne Wallace says a place for homeless women to go is especially urgently needed.
Among tonight’s speakers will be survivors of domestic violence and a representative from Kilkenny’s Amber Women’s Refuge.
