Carlow’s Fire Chief has appealed to people never to set fire to gorse or any other shrubbery because of how dangerous it can be.
It’s after units from Bagenalstown Fire Station were battling blazes on Mount Leinster until 1 o’clock this morning – having also been called out to them on Friday and Saturday night.
Alan O’Neill says these fires are extremely unpredictable and can be hugely dangerous to wildlife and to the fire fighters who have to deal with them in the dark.
He told KCLR news that it also means their units aren’t as readily available if a more serious incident happens elsewhere.
