Carlow’s Lime Kiln has been added to the list of protected structures in the county.
The decision was made at this afternoon’s monthly meeting of Carlow County Council – after it was carried by 9 votes to 6.
In a document seen by KCLR news, Carlow County Councils acting manager advised against adding it to the list, due to possible legal issues.
This decision comes after lengthy discussions about the possibility of having the Lime Kiln, on the site of the old sugar factory, knocked.
Councillors now want it turned into a tourist attraction.
