The Chairman of Kilkenny IFA says they put a strong case to the Department of Agriculture yesterday to keep the local Vet Lab, but the decision is in the hands of politicians.
John Bambrick was part of a team arguing the case to keep the local lab open amid a countrywide review of the services.
He says they were given three scenarios of what would happen:
“One was to have just one lab in the country, in Dublin. The second was to have three labs – one in Athlone, one in Cork, and one in Dublin. And the third option was to maintain the current six labs that are in the country…So we strongly emphasised to them the need to maintain the lab in Kilkenny – that the whole South East is an expanding area.”
