The Clinical Director of St Luke’s Hospital has acknowledged that the trolley crisis there is worsening.
Professor Gary Courtney was speaking after KCLR reported four ambulances were delayed for hours at the Emergency Departments because staff couldn’t find anywhere to put the patients.
He says this is a regular occurrence at some of the busier Dublin Hospitals but it shouldn’t be happening at St Luke’s.
At the moment ward closures have meant the number of available beds is down, but they should be available for use again in the coming weeks.
Speaking to KCLR, Professor Courtney says a huge part of the problem is also the fact that St Luke’s is now taking patients from much farther afield than before.
He says, St Luke’s – like every other hospital in the country – is also short staffed.
