David Fitzgerald is denying that there’s any serious rift between Diageo and Kilkenny County Council.
The Drinks giant are selling their site in the middle of the city to the local authority in a deal worked out after they announced they were closing down the iconic Smithwick’s Brewery.
As part of the deal they have been cleaning up the industrial works on the site as per the Environmental Protection Agency’s regulations.
Local Councillor David Fitzgerald says while there’s no serious rift, there have been contentious issues in relation to the deconstruction of buildings on the site particularly to make sure there was no contamination.
There was asbestos on site which had to be removed by a specialist.
He says Diageo have been hugely supportive to the city.
