The HSE is making alternative arrangements for 28 residents at St Patricks Centre in Kilkenny after HIQA secured a court order to close a unit there.
They’ve taken over the running at Our Ladys Unit and are working to address safety concerns at the facility.
The order to cancel registration of Our Ladys unit was granted in the district court last Friday and the HSE was appointed as the registered provider.
The main reason given was fire safety`- in a statement to KCLR news the HSE says that immediate steps, at a cost of €100,000, have already been taken to address those risks and other measures and works have started today to ensure all identified actions will be implemented immediately.
In the meantime health service officials have been working with the families of 28 adults with intellecutal disabilities to make alternative arrangements for their care.
The Court Order is valid for 28 days and came into effect at 7 o’ clock last Friday evening.
