Gardaí will soon be able to issue fines to cyclists for 7 different road traffic offences.
The Transport Minister has unveiled details this morning of his intention to introduce fixed charge notices from the end of this month.
A fine of 40 euro will apply for each of the 7 offences which include breaking a red light, cycling in a pedestrianised area and cycling without lights in the dark.
Theres been a mixed response to the plan with questions being raised over policing it.
But Seamus Nugent of Smarter Travel Kilkenny says rules are just as important for cyclists as they are for motorists.
