The future of a Kilkenny centre for adults with special needs is uncertain.
HIQA has cancelled the registration of Camphills Ballytobin Community saying its now involved in a legal process over serious concerns they have about safety and the quality of service in Ballytobin..
In a statement to KCLR news this morning Camphill Communities of Ireland confirmed that the running of the community there will transfer to the HSE – a process that has already started with Camphill committing to a smooth transition for its 19 residents and their families.
Some of the staff at the facility will continue in their roles but the move means that volunteers that have supported the Ballytobin community for years will no longer be involved.
The HSE says its priority is the welfare of those using the facility for residential or day care purposes.
Its to work with Camphill over the next few days to agree onward planning and the actions required arising from a recent inspection by HIQA.
The Health service is committing to keeping residents, families and employees fully informed.
