Two years since the quiet village of Inistioge was taken over by lights, cameras and actors, ‘The Secret Scripture’ is finally hitting big screens all over the country.
Adapted from the 2008 Sebastian Barry novel, the film tells the story of a woman who keeps a diary of her stay at a mental hospital and the events leading up to her hospitalization.
The film was directed by six-times Academy Award Nominee, Jim Sheridan.
He spoke to KCLR from the set in Inistioge in between shoots, and he said the village was very nearly too idyllic!
The cast includes Vanessa Redgrave, Rooney Mara, Eric Bana and Aidan Turner, along with plenty of familiar local faces who were cast as extras when it was being filmed in Kilkenny.
It had its world premiere at the Toronoto International Film Festival in 2016 but goes on general release in Ireland today.
