Investigations are continuing this morning into the crash of a light aircraft on Mount Leinster in which 2 men lost their lives.
69-year-old Bryan Keane and 58-year-old Paul Smith set out from Athboy Aerodrome in Meath yesterday – heading for Wexford in good weather conditions.
However sometime after 2 o’clock, the light aircraft crashed into the side of Mount Leinster on the Carlow/Wexford border.
There were no reports of any distress signal being issued from the plane before the crash which killed the two men.
The alarm was raised by a hillwalker, who alerted emergency services.
Their bodies remained at the remote mountainous scene over night and Gardaí, along with the South East Mountain Rescue and the Coast Guard helicopter have been coordinating the recovery operation.
An investigation is currently underway.
