Irish Water Safety is urging you to stay safe when it comes to water activities over this bank holiday.
With the rise in temperatures recently people have been more inclined to go for a dip in the rivers or lakes across Carlow and Kilkenny.
Nationally the average figures for water-related deaths are 135 per year or 11 drownings per month while locally over the past 6 years 16 people have drowned in Kilkenny and 6 in Carlow.
Speaking to KCLR the Chairperson of Irish Water Safety, Breda Collins, says most drownings actually occur in inland counties.
