There’s speculation that local TD John Paul Phelan is being considered as a candidate for the Ireland South Constituency after John Bryan decided against seeking the nomination.
The Carlow Kilkenny TD ran in the 2009 European Elections and polled well despite not being elected in the East constuency..
Chief Whip Paul Kehoe and Waterford’s John Deasy are also being considered.
Meanwhile the Environment Minister Phil Hogan doesn’t agree with some of the reasons given by John Bryan for pulling out of the contest.
Minister Hogan says there’s a substantial vote available in the four Leinster counties in the Ireland South constituency.
