Kathleen Funchion was speaking as the centre for women and children from Carlow and Kilkenny says they have to turn away an average of one person a day because they’re filled to capacity.
Last year, 320 referrals had to be refused as they can only cater for 7 women and up to 23 children at a time.
Speaking to KCLR News, Deputy Kathleen Funchion says services for women and victims of domestic abuse is something she’s been raising since she was elected.
