A Kilkenny Councillor says he has “nothing against birds” but he does feel the hedge cutting deadline date should be brought forward by a month.
Peter Chap Cleere brought the motion forward to the council however it has come in for some criticism with some quarters saying councils already have permission to cut back hedges when road safety is in question.
At the moment landowners can’t cut hedges or trees along the roadside between March the 1st and the end of August each year for the safety of wildlife.
Councillor Cleere says bringing it forward will help farmers.
