Councillors in Kilkenny have taken the first step towards introducing an outright ban on sulky racing.
A motion calling for just that was passed by members at a meeting yesterday and the council will now consult with solicitors to draft a bye-law that would prohibit such activity on all public roads in the county.
Meanwhile a committee is being set-up to oversee work at the Carlow Kilkenny dog shelter after a separate motion was brought in relation to that.
Mayor Andrew McGuinness who was behind both motions told KCLR news that there was no objections from his colleagues.
