The cost of moving Kilkenny’s Library Headquarters onto the Brewery Site is almost half what it would cost to expand the building it’s currently in.
That’s according to analysis carried out by the council and presented to elected members this week.
They have now agreed to press ahead with moving the services from Carnegie on John’s Quay to the old Mayfair Building at an estimated cost of €3 million euro to €4 million, as opposed to €6 million to €7 million.
However, Director of Services, Mary Mulholland has told KCLR News the Carnegie building will still be in use as an auxilliary library.
The news comes just over a year after councillors decided that the headquarters wouldn’t move from the Carnegie building.
