The Minister for Social Protection says around a third of the tip-offs they receive about alleged fraud in the system are ‘highly relevant’.
It comes as the annual report from Joan Burton’s department shows 632 million euro was saved in a crackdown on social welfare fraud last year.
1.1 million reviews were carried out in 2013, and the department says the more intense focus on fraud is having a positive impact on the system.
