The name of Kilkenny’s newest bridge has finally been decided, just two days before it’s due to open.
St Francis Bridge is what the structure, which is part of the Central Access Scheme in the city, will be called.
It’s due to open to traffic on Wednesday morning of this week before the official opening next week.
The name, St Francis Bridge, was voted on by Councillors at today’s monthly meeting of the county council.
Meanwhile, councillors have also decided that the Smithwick name should also be honoured.
Another part of the Central Access Scheme/Brewery Site developments, which hasn’t yet been identified, is to be named after the family.
