Carlow is to get a new and improved ambulance base in the grounds of St Dympna’s hospital.
Senator Jennifer Murnane O’Connor says €300,000 has been approved to transform an existing building at Elm Court in St Dympna’s into a brand-new ambulance base.
Health Minister Simon Harris has assured there will be no disruption to the emergency ambulance services during the transition period.
Earlier, serious concerns were raised after the prefab building of the existing ambulance service in Carlow was condemned by health and safety chiefs.
Remedial works were carried out there while the process of finding a new home started.
