A new six-bed unit for palliative care patients should be open at St Lukes Hospital in June.
Clinical Director at the hospital Garry Courtney has thanked the Susie Long Hospice Fund for their part in it – the charity is contributing towards the cost of the facility which will see 4 single rooms and a double room provided aswell as a family room for relatives of patients.
Susies family have described it as an emotional day for them saying they hope the development at St Lukes will help reduce the turmoil many patients and their families go through.
Management at St Luke’s have said they are still committed to providing a 12-bed hospice in the development of Phase 2 of the hospital.
Chairman of the Susie Long hospice fund Tommy Roche says they will also have a role to play in that.
