150 years after being sent to Kilkenny, a six penny envelope has been sold at a London auction for just over €1,000.
The Sunday Independent reports today that the letter was sent from New Zealand to Michael Keogh from Rathbourne in Kilkenny in in 1863.
The very rare mail bag seal stamp on the letter is what has made it so valuable.
The letter is part of a collection which was sold by New Zealander Greg Francis in London on Thursday.
The envelope was sold for €1058 as part of a collection which ended up fetching €80,000.
