- Favourite song: Too many to choose from, but – at the moment – Weightlifting by Scottish band “The Trashcan Sinatras” (it’s playing in the background). You do know that I’ll change my mind don’t you? Maybe “Halfpast” by Irish band “Mancini”. See? I did warn you…Hang on, “Dignity” by Irish artist Fiach”. Sorry, I’ll switch off the shuffle on the iPod and see…hang on, here’s Pugwash. Anything by Pugwash, The Beatles, The Guggenheim Grotto or The Trashcan Sinatras basically. Or the first Planxty album or the second Bothy Band (“Old Hag You Have Killed Me”) album or The Chieftains 3…or The Speech Project by Gerry Diver is a recent love. …see where this is going?
- Favourite group: Too many to choose from (again), but if there’s a gun at my head (funny story about that, but for another time)…probably The Beatles, although Irish bands Pugwash, The Guggenheim Grotto and Mancini would have to be there or thereabouts and of course John Martyn would have to feature…although he’s not a group is he?
- Favourite album: What is it with the only one answer? Revolver or The White Album by The Beatles. Or anything from Pugwash, The Guggenheim Grotto, Mancini or John Martyn…
- What era would you most like to live in and why: Right here right now. I grew up in the 60′s and 70′s and they were great but you have to look forward not backwards…no internet in the 60′s or 70′s you see. Funny story actually…
- Favourite movie: “Withnail And I”. It cracks me up every time. “Diva” is mighty fine with an extraordinary soundtrack.
- Favourite actor/actress: Gene Hackman / Meryl Streep. See, I can pick one, but hang on, Marlon Brando is pretty fine, so is Al Pacino and Daniel Day-Lewis, Fiona Shaw is brilliant, so is Billie Whitelaw…(are you starting to see a pattern?)
- Favourite TV show: Early series of MASH (without the canned laughter), The Wire, Ros Na Rún, Fawlty Towers, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Father Ted and at a push, The Angelus (you know where you are with that show).
- What colour describes you best and why: Blue. No, yel…aaaaaaaaaaggggghhhhh! (Obscure Monty Python reference)
- Top 3 Desert Island discs : Finally, a choice of more than one. Emmmmm. Actually that’s worse? If you mean albums that’s okay. “Ommadawn” by Mike Oldfield, “The Poet And The Piper” with Séamus Heaney and Liam O’Flynn and…”Revolver” by the Beatles.
- Best memory: The next one…but maybe the day I was married to Judy and my childrens Ferdia and Eimear’s births.
- If you had one wish, what would it be: The Wicked Wish Of The Wesht…Seriously though, that my family and loved ones are always safe and happy.
- Favourite food: Anything that I don’t have to make…although my omelettes are okay…hmmm Stir-Frys are nice and easy to make, so let’s go with that. Someone else making me a Stir-Fry.
- Place you’d most like to visit: Iceland. I hear the frozen food section is awesome.
