A member of Kilkenny county council wants the authority to boycott St Patricks Day celebrations in the US this year in response to the policies and antics of Donald Trump
Sinn Féin councillor David Kennedy is to table a motion before this month’s council meeting asking his colleagues to stand in solidarity with all faiths and races and refuse to send anyone from the council to the United States for St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
He says he can understand the merit of sending over national politicians like the Taoiseach to highlight the plight of the undocumented Irish.
But he sees no reason to send people at council level there.
