With children across the country returning to school this week, it’s expected that there will be yet another increase in the amount of people presenting with the flu.
Over 600 people were on trolleys in hospitals in what was a record-breaking week last week.
St Luke’s Hospital for Carlow/Kilkenny had the 3rd highest number on Tuesday which has been put down to the flu.
Visitor restrictions are still in place.
However, General Manager, Ann Slattery told KCLR they are prepared for a spike in numbers again this week and have plans in place.
Meanwhile, the Health Minister will visit a number of hospitals this week to check in on the number of patients on trolleys.
Simon Harris is also due to meet the HSE tomorrow for a further update.
