Homelessness is having a huge effect on school children in this country.
So says local INTO representative and principal of St Patrick’s de la Salle primary school in Kilkenny, Joe McKeown.
The union’s annual conference is continuing in Belfast, and amongst the topics addressed yesterday was the issue of homelessness and how badly it affects children’s ability to learn.
At the moment there are over 2,500 homeless children in the country and speaking to KCLR News, Joe said this is certainly something that’s being reflected locally.
He said children, who are homeless are coming in to schools every day, children who are living in hotels with their families and he confirmed it is happening in Carlow and Kilkenny.
