Carlow has the highest rate of lung cancer deaths in Ireland according to health statistics released today by the Irish Examiner.
It also has the highest incidence of the disease whereas Kilkenny has the 2nd lowest in the country.
The death rate from Non melanoma skin cancer is also high in Carlow compared with Kilkenny which is one of 6 counties with no deaths from this type of cancer between 2009-2011.
However rates of breast cancer are at the lower end of the scale in both counties.
One of the other stand out statistics for Carlow is the high numbers seeking treatment for problem alcohol use.
89.2 percent of people in Kilkenny consider themselves to be in very good, or good health and 87.2 percent in Carlow.
