It looks like mining could once again be returning to North Kilkenny.
It’s understood exploratory mining has recommenced in Galmoy in the last number of months by a company with a ‘prospecting licence’ of up to 10 years.
Local Councillor Mary Hilda Cavanagh says she has it on good information that the intention is now to fully reopen the zinc mine there.
It had been thought that a waste management facility would be opened after AQS Solutions purchased the site in March of this year.
However, Councillor Cavanagh told KCLR News she understands that’s no longer the case.
