The lack of bus places for local children is once again causing huge concern for many families.
Garry English lives near Bagenalstown, but his son goes to St Kieran’s College in Kilkenny, and he’s been told there’s no space available on the bus for the year ahead.
This comes after independent Minister John Halligan promised that any student with a concessionary school bus ticket would not lose their seat.
Speaking on Liveline, Garry says there’s one bus from Paulstown, but it leaves very early and doesn’t return until late evening.
Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil Deputy Bobby Aylward who was picked to sit on a cross party committee to address the issue has called on Minister Halligan to clarify the situation urgently.
In a statement to KCLR news, deputy Aylward says the school transport system is an essential part of life in rural communities.
