The Camphill Communities of Ireland say they have agreed action plans with HIQA to try to be fully compliant.
A report released by HIQA this week identified “major concerns” with health and safety at three centres run by Camphill in Kilkenny and Kildare.
According to the report it was discovered during a visit to one facility in Kilkenny that a considerable sum of money had been removed from a resident’s bank account in 2009 as a “contribution”.
HIQA was informed that this was done in agreement with a person in an informal role of responsibility for the resident, who was deemed unable to give consent.
In a statement released by Camphill Communities of Ireland last night, the organisation says they were “disappointed” that some of their services hadn’t met the required standards.
They say they have now agreed action plans for each of the centres with HIQA and that they’re working closely with residents, their families and the HSE to ensure the best standard of life for people with disabilities.
Nationally, Camphill Communities provide services to 220 people with intellectual and other disabilities in 17 centres around Ireland.
