Women have been “let down dramatically” once again.

So says Carlow/Kilkenny TD Kathleen Funchion as 6,000 women will find out next week if they’ve been caught up in the latest Cervical Check debacle involving Quest Laboratories.

Deputy Funchion says it’s time serious changes were introduced to the system.

However, Cervical Check campaigner, Vicky Phelan says those 6,000 were given a preliminary result already but there are a thousand others who weren’t – and they’re who she is worried about.

She’s also told KCLR the backlog is an extremely pressing issue.

Vicky says Minister Simon Harris was right to offer a free smear to women but the problem is the resources were not in place to meet the huge surge in demand.
