Cillian Murphy has become the first Irish-born man to win Best Actor at the Oscars.

The Cork native, who’s married to Kilkenny woman & artist Yvonne McGuinness, won the prestigious trophy for his performance in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’, which scooped seven awards in total last night.

Irish-produced ‘Poor Things’ came away with four Oscars – with Emma Stone named Best Actress.

Cillian described himself as “a proud Irishman” as he collected his award in LA, even using a couple of words ‘as gaeilge’, saying; “We made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb and for better or for worse we’re all living in Oppenheimer’s world so I would really like to dedicate this to the peacemakers everywhere, go raibh mile maith agaibh”.

In paying tribute to his family he noted; “Brendan Murphy, Mary Murphy, Yvonne McGuinness my partner in life and my two boys Malachy and Aran who are sitting up there, I love you so much and I’m a very proud Irishman standing here tonight”,
