Uncertainty around sentencing could be preventing many survivors of gender-based violence from reporting it.

The latest case locally saw a life sentence handed down yesterday at the Central Criminal Court to a 67-year-old Carlow man – he’d pleaded guilty to 12 sample counts including nine of rape, two of sexual assault and one of assault causing harm, all on dates at the family home between 1991 and 2015.
