Unregistered drinking water supplies are not being monitored by councils, creating a potential public health risk for consumers.
The number of drinking water private group schemes with E. coli failures went up in 2023.
Today’s EPA report shows 22 of these schemes, including locally at the Kiloshulan GWS in north West Kilkenny, failed the standard for E. coli, putting the health of around 4,600 consumers at risk.
While in terms of registering Small Private Supplies (SPS), Kilkenny and Wexford have 130 each listed, both ahead of the lower ten (which includes Waterford), but far behind other counties.
