Carlow Mayor to travel to Tempe, Arizona to strengthen ties between the two areas

Carlow’s set to strengthening its ties with Tempe.

It twinned with the Arizona city in 1997 and the latest local delegation is due to visit there this October.

Approval’s been granted at a special meeting of the county council for the group to travel.

They’ll be led by Mayor Fintan Phelan who says important topics will be discussed while there; “A number of the items that we’ll be looking at is economic development, we’ll be looking at town centre renewal, we’ll be looking at furthering exchanges whether it be increasing the student exchange or whether it’ll be moving into other areas such as fire and possibly police exchange, I think it’s only beneficial that we don’t always look inward but look outward”.
