After a strong start against All-Ireland champions Clare last weekend in Ennis, Derek Lyng’s Kilkenny side faced Galway at Nowlan Park over the weekend.
However, the Tribesmen came away with the points, securing victory with a goal separating the teams at full-time.
A slow start to each half saw Kilkenny trailing by as much as eight points at one stage. A spirited comeback appeared on the cards after the home side rattled off 1-6 unanswered, with Eoin Cody netting the goal. However, Galway responded swiftly, hitting four of their own to seal the win.
Derek Lyng acknowledged the challenges faced by his side:
“We’re working on a lot of things at the minute and just sometimes there’ll be that extra pass not needed and we need to be a little bit better at that but it’s not going to happen overnight. The players are trying to do the right thing but we will be disappointed overall. You know we need to be in the game earlier. There are a lot of sore bodies there and the pitch is soft. It’s heavy going on lads and we’re training hard as well, so look we’ll see how we are shortly.”
Kilkenny will look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures, with Wexford up next this Saturday in Chadwicks Wexford Park.
