Concerns raised by County Kilkenny residents re road conditions in their area

Residents of two County Kilkenny villages have raised yet again concerns regarding road conditions in their area.

Parts of the main R448 through Knocktopher and Ballyhale, as well as the smaller roads off it, have at points potholes, depth differences, sections of road near-collapse, the lack of markings and more.

The issues were raised last year but many feel little was done to resolve them and now vehicular activity in and through the area has increased due to extra numbers attending local schools, a rise in businesses for a variety of commercial entities, in addition to the everyday movements of larger trucks & farm machinery and the use of roads as shortcuts to and from the motorway link.  This with recent weather conditions are understood to be at the root of the problems.

KCLR News’ Edwina Grace was driven around the area yesterday to see first-hand what those living nearby are concerned about as she outlined on The KCLR Daily;

The local authority says the Municipal District meeting agreed its three-year roads plan last October which will see a number of works completed between now and 2027 – including this Easter a stretch by Tirlán CountryLife and in July another between Ballyhale national school and Knockmoylan Bridge.

A spokesperson told KCLR News that they would advise anybody who comes across an issue they believe needs to be addressed should take a photo of it, note its location (with Eircode where possible) and forward to their respective county council area office.

Meanwhile, the council’s public consultation regarding the Knocktopher Traffic Calming Scheme is accepting submissions until 4pm tomorrow (Friday, 7th March).

If you’ve something to say on this or other matters in your area please get in touch with KCLR Newsroom via email to [email protected] or phone 056 77 96 262 between 7am and 6pm.
