Laois have been relegated to Division 2 for the 2026 season following a 0-29 to 2-26 defeat to Carlow at Laois Hire O’Moore Park on Saturday.
Speaking to KCLR after the match, Carlow manager Tom Mullally reflected on his team’s hard-fought victory over Laois at their home ground.
“The result today was huge. It was against Laois in O’Moore Park so we had to test ourselves and we knew Laois was going to bring everything that they could”.
The Carlow manager highlighted the importance of player commitment and character in his team’s performance, emphasizing how their dedication was reflected in their play.
“Carlow benefits from people committing to it’s cause. A reflection of how serious they are comes in performances. Today the character question was answered. We made mistakes at times but I don’t think it threw us off”.
With Carlow’s place in Division 1B secured, Mullally stated that they will use next week’s game against Westmeath to test his panel and give his less experienced players valuable game time.
“Our priority is to develop the panel more, that’s why it was important to get a result here today. It consolidates our position in the league and we can test our panel a little bit more next weekend and see where our strengths and weaknesses are”.
Carlow will take on Westmeath in their final league match next Saturday, March 22, at Netwatch Cullen Park, with throw-in scheduled at 5pm.
