Dr. Tadgh Crowley, a GP based in Kilkenny, has expressed serious concerns about the shortage of General Practitioners (GPs) in Ireland, stressing that the country faces both short-term and long-term challenges if the issue is not addressed swiftly.
Speaking to KCLR News, Dr. Crowley pointed out that Ireland has a high percentage of GPs who are over the age of 60, and with an aging population, the demand for medical care is only increasing. “We have a high percentage of our GPs who are over 60, and we also have an ageing population in Ireland,” he said.
“This, combined with a growing population and the rising number of chronic diseases, is leading to more frequent visits to GPs.”
