A call has been made for lights to be erected at Carlow Town Park.
Mayor Paul Doogue has been raising the lack of lighting in the park at the December Monthly meeting where he got support from fellow councillors to install new lights.
Mayor Doogue says that the park is used as a short cut for school children and for people out excercising.
He told KCLR News that “Carlow town park is closed basically at half four this time of the year but a number of people use that pathway in particular the school children going to school, coming home from school and it’s closed by the time they get home, it’s not really open in the time they’re going to school and it’s a real shortcut but it’s a safe shortcut as well and it’s the only area down that side of the town where you have a pedestrian crossing that you can cross safely.”
“Why would you close a beautiful park at half hour in the evening? I believe it should be lit up so it could be utilised more and get more play areas for the children itself, but also we have a water hub that will be going there please God this year, so I’m assuming that water hub is not going to be closed, as simple as that, at half four or 5 o’clock. So there’s several reasons why the park should be lit up.”
Mayor Doogue spoke to KCLR News’ Martin Quilty about the issue.
