A local community’s hitting out at what’s been described as a senseless act of vandalism.
The old Boys’ School in Castlecomer was trashed on Monday evening with its windows smashed and classrooms ransacked. (See images from Farrell’s Gala – Castlecomer’s Facebook page).
Gardaí say they are investigating a case of criminal damage at the historic building.
The property’s not been in use since the school merged with Presentation Girls Primary at their site to form the co-educational Scoil Íosagáin last September.
Local Cllr. Maurice Shortall told KCLR News; “Most people know that the boys school ultimately closed their doors for the final time last year, whilst the property remains vacant I guess that it is a target for thugs and lowlifes so, like, I’d appeal to anyone that may have seen anything suspicious to get onto Castlecomer Garda Station, check your video doorbell rings in the area and let’s hope we can bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice”.
