Commencement notices hit decade low despite growth in Kilkenny

The number of commencement notices issued has fallen to its lowest level in nearly a decade.

Just over 16,000 were filed nationally in 2025, a significant drop from the 69,000 notices issued the previous year.

Kilkenny has seen 1,400 new home start over the last two years – a 36% increase over the preceding two year period

While in Carlow there was 88 in 2025 with 240 the previous year.
