Kilkenny County Council is to write to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Planning to seek the publication of a new set of draft wind energy guidelines.
The motion, which was passed at yesterday’s meeting of Kilkenny County Council, also called for a moratorium on all current wind energy applications in the county pending the introduction of new guidelines following a public consultation process.
The motion was brought before the Council by Labour’s Tomás Breathnach: “In the first instance, the guidelines that are in place at present are the guidelines from 2006.”
“I made the simple point that’s 20 years ago, they’re dated. The second thing I’m saying is that in that interim, over those 20 years, there has been a huge change in the scale of which the proposal’s coming forward, the density of the proposals and the proliferation of it.”
