The development of two new recreation sites in Callan will be the subject of a public consultation session which will take place at the town’s Parish Hall (Eircode: R95 AW99) from 7pm this evening.
As part of the Callan Outdoor Amenity Plan, Kilkenny County Council is currently developing a masterplan for both the Abbey Meadow and Motte Field, which may include the creation of a community park.
Looking forward to this evening’s consultation, Councillor Joe Lyons (FG) told KCLR News that both sites are already very popular with locals.
“At the moment, there’s a walkway around both the Abbey Meadow and the Motte Field and it’s a very popular area for families and for people out walking their dogs,” he said. “It’s a lovely, safe space down by the river and it’s fantastic there during the summer, particularly during good weather.”
“Hopefully, a lot of residents will come along tonight and share their thoughts into the future delivery of the project. The (development area) is right in the centre of the town and is very accessible and it would be wonderful to see it put to the best possible use.”
