A Kilkenny city based animation studio will find out later if it’s heading to the Oscars yet again.
Cartoon Saloon was born locally over two decades ago and has grown to become a global success story, the talents of its crew lauded far and wide.
It’s spawned not just similar entities but also an associated festival (Kilkenny Animated) and inspired many others to see their own dreams through.
To date they’ve won at various ceremonies and secured Academy Award nominations for The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, The Breadwinner and Wolfwalkers as well as Late Afternoon.
Now the focus is on Éiru which last month was named on the shortlist for the 98th annual event and today will learn if they’re among the final five for a win. More here with director Giovanna Ferrarri.
Meanwhile, Ireland’s also hoping for a nod for Jessie Buckley who’s tipped for the Best Actress category for her performance in ‘Hamnet’ after recently picking up a Critics’ Choice award and a Golden Globe, and also for her co-star Kildare actor Paul Mescal who has family in our locality.
