Carlow’s VISUAL Arts Centre is holding an open evening this week in a bid to attract both new and returning volunteers as another busy, creative year ramps up.
The open evening on Wednesday (6pm to 8:30pm) will provide visitors with an opportunity to learn about this year’s exhibition schedule and the significant role that volunteers play in ensuring their smooth running.
“Our fantastic team of volunteers assist in delivering a warm welcome to all visitors both to the galleries and our theatre,” according to Annie Lynott, Theatre and Corporate Programme Manager at VISUAL.
“Our volunteers help with learning activities in the gallery and exhibition halls and any general operations required.
“Training and support are provided to all our volunteers so previous experience is not essential. What we’re asking for is a willingness and ability to commit to VISUAL for a minimum of four hours per week.”
Annie Lynott told KCLR News: “Wednesday’s open evening is for everyone. It’s a chance to learn about the three exhibitions that are opening here this Saturday (January 31st) along with our Spring Season in the theatre and we’ll be talking about all of this over a cup of tea and coffee…
“Our volunteers are amazing and play such an important role for us. Some of our voluntary team have been with us for many years. They’ve become part of our family, part of the VISUAL community and arts organisations always need help in that regard. VISUAL is such a beautiful, relaxing space to be a part of and that’s just another of the benefits that comes with being part of our team.”
An application form for interested parties can be picked up at the VISUAL Box Office. A Garda vetting check may also be required.
